This summer, MMSD launched the first Freedom Schools site in Wisconsin in partnership with the Children’s Defense Fund, creating a joyful and culturally rich space where students are empowered through literacy, identity and community connection.
Our public schools have long been underfunded, and now, more than ever, it’s critical that public education, which welcomes all students, is prioritized.
We are excited to announce that we adopted a new form of school-to-home communication at our school called ParentSquare!

Gompers Elementary was named Fittest School at the Madison Bike + Run, where 400+ kids helped raise $12K for area schools to kick off summer!
Jay Coleman, a recent East High grad, had two state titles in wheelchair track, using their journey to advocate for greater inclusion for future athletes.
This year, more than 80 students from MMSD received the Wisconsin Seal of Biliteracy. This honor celebrates their academic success and cultural identity while encouraging connections between different languages and communities.
The team won a national title at the 2025 African American History Challenge, showcasing their hard work, teamwork and deep knowledge of Black history on a national stage.
